Re: The Hernandez Dilema
It's all a symptom of having a poor central midfield who don't offer anything like enough in attack.

But to be honest he's looked pretty disinterested for most of the time he's been here. It would be absolutely no loss at all if he was moved on unless we really revamped the midfield with players capable of getting us into the opposition box consistently- at least more than about 4 times a game.

In short we really aren't playing to his strengths which you can forgive him for, but I really don't think he's giving his all either.

'doesnt possess the guile that would make him a "fox in the box"'

But that's his exact strength?

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
I agree Hernandez looks weak in his present position.

But a hint as to his strength is his international record - 99 caps, 49 goals.

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
I reckon he was part of a plan to reshape the way we play, which got abandoned halfway when the powers that be realised how much it was going to cost.

A half-arsed attempt to move up to the next level, which is as disastrous as a lift that stops halfway between floors.

Hernadez was a bit part player at all the clubs he has been at.
My opinion is that he is weak, not fast enough and doesnt possess the guile that would make him a "fox in the box"

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
I feel sorry for Hernandez to be honest. He is a great finisher but we don't create so he will never be an influence in the way we set up at the moment. Yesterday showed a worrying lack of depth in the squad and again we have an ever growing injury list at a time when we need everyone available. The most annoying thing is that it was obvious we needed to strengthen so should have had our business lined up and done early doors but we are already in the second week in Jan and no one is on the horizon. It will be the usual last minute loans for sub standard players that we will all have to swallow again. All getting rather predictable and irritating. I have to give Josh Cullen a mentioned for yesterday though. Coming back on after having his teeth kicked out made me really proud of him. A lesson to some of the so called superstars we have in the squad me thinks.

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
I agree about the lack of service he is getting which does not help his confidence or chances of scoring goals, but he has looked like a cart horse over the last 2/3 games i have seen him play. Noble looks quicker than him, and that is saying something!

Hardly playing to his strengths are we... left up jack on his own with his nearest company about 20 yards away.. surprised he don't score a brace every game

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
We seem to have a real knack for completely ruining in coming strikers at our football club. Granted, some have just been plain poor but we don't seem to set our teams up to play to certain players strengths.

Carroll is only effective with the long ball and crosses in to the box. Pea is effective in and around the box poaching opportunities. Yet we don't seem to know how to set our team up to make a real impact.

It doesn't present our club as being a very attractive proposition if you're a striker that we are after. You'd look at the way we play and wonder how you would ever score goals.

If you want to go way back Radzinski was in double figures for him one year at least. No prizes for guessing why I know that.

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
Until we properly address our lack of strength, pace and skill in midfield we will continue to struggle. Strikers need service and defenders need cover. Fix the midfield and we have enough quality elsewhere to rapidly improve as a team.

true, thanks for that. I'd forgot about the Yak

Re: Moyes and strikers at Everton - Yakubu got 20+ goals under him one season. Saha and Andy Johnson got double figures a couple of times each. He also often had the likes of Cahill or Fellaini playing as second strikers and getting double figures. So, not great but a better return than most of our forwards over the last 15 years.

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
He was a terrible purchase considering how weak and uncreative our midfield is. Literally the perfectly wrong type of striker for us.

If we bring in someone creative in midfield, he might improve though.

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
Blimey Stewie. Spot on. He might do well in a perfect storm but otherwise he seems cometely ineffectual. Doesnt stop people thinking he's brilliant though.

Re: The Hernandez Dilema
Hernandez has 2 great qualities.

1. Movement
- from crosses where we have got in behind the back line
- when someone is running at the back line to play him in with a through ball

2. Finishing inside the box

Only Lanzini and Arnautovic come close to providing the service he needs to flourish. As mentioned without them playing it was all a bit predictable. Holland is the only other player with the profile to supppy him. He runs at players, gets in behind and can create.

We create so few chances he doesn't have much to feed off at all.

El Scorchio 10:29 Mon Jan 8
Re: The Hernandez Dilema
Looks disinterested. I think he’s a bit of a luxury player to be honest and you need to play a lot in the oppo box and have others create opportunities for him to play to his strengths.

We aren’t doing that but in all honesty he looks like he doesn’t give a shit either.

I think there must be some sort of issue with him seen as Moyes is clearly under no pressure to play him which you’d expect if he was there for marketing purposes or as a Sullivan vanity purchase. I wonder if he’s on a similar alleged deal to Sakho, which is why he’s hardly starting games.

He was poor yesterday. But not helped by the fact that he had little service and was up their on his won playing against a load of units.
